documentary portraiture and weddings

style details
Documentary portraiture captures images as they naturally occur. A sleeping newborn, a toddler grasping his teddy, a bride's smile during her reception prayer- these are my most cherished photographs. This unobtrusive style of photography allows children to be children and a newly married couple to focus on one another instead of a lens. During a child's session, I won't wait for a perfectly posed smile, but instead play and make them feel comfortable and free to be themselves. The smiles will come naturally and your child's personality will be on display!

protrait details
the clothing - Whether you prefer black and white or color, keep in mind that you do not want your child's clothing to overpower them in a photograph. Black and white photos are preferable as they are classic and timeless. For this reason, I suggest simple, comfortable clothing with no bold prints, stripes or logos. Flowing sundresses, jeans and khakis are always good choices. If weather permits, bare feet are preferred. If more than one person will be photographed, please dress in complimentary outfits. For newborns, just a diaper (or his or her birthday suit) is preferred!

session details - Your portrait session will typically take 1 to 2 hours. This will leave plenty of time for breaks, snacks or even a short nap. Sessions are on location or at your home. I prefer natural light. Outdoor sessions can take place at the location of your choice in the morning or late afternoon. (If you need suggestions, let me know!) For newborns and young babies, I suggest photographing indoors near a sunny window. If the weather is bad or your child is sick on the day of the session, we will find a time to reschedule. Your session fee will be applied to the make-up date.
